ELIGIBILITY—MASTER CLASSES
Performing Participants
Pieces must be polished and ready for performance in a master class.
Young Artists Level I
• Piano students in grades 5-12 who are playing advanced concert repertoire. Each participant will perform in two master classes, and at the Young Artist Recital.
Young Artists Level II
• Piano students in grades 2-12 who are playing standard repertoire. (Examples: Sonatinas, Bach’s Two and Three Parts Inventions, Chopin’s Waltzes, Grieg’s Lyric Pieces, Bartok’s Mikrokosmos, beginning concertos, pieces from Albums for the Young by Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and Lowell Liebermann.)
• Eight participants will be chosen to perform in one master class in a relaxed and intimate classroom setting. Following each performance and master class, there will be an interactive time for attendees to ask questions.
Students Observers
No audition tape is required. Observers attend all events but do not perform in master classes. Any student (grades 2-12) is eligible.

Application
• Applicants should send or email the following information:
Name, address, phone number, email address, teacher’s name, and applying performing level.
• Applicants who did not perform in TCYA master classes the previous year must submit a CD containing at least one polished piece no later than May 15, 2009. Only pieces on the CD shall be performed in the master classes. Recording quality will be a considerating factor during the selection process.
• 2008 participants who wish to return this year must notify TCYA of their intention by the same date.
• Several TCYA Level I participants will be chosen to perform a concerto movement with the Plano Symphony Orchestra on June 17. To be considered for this event, all participants must submit a tape or CD of one movement of any concerto from the standard repertory (excluding slow movements).
• Upon notification of acceptance, a non-refundable deposit of half tuition is required of all applicants. The balance is due at registration on June 17, 2009.
• A non-refundable $20 application fee is to be submitted with the application. It shall be applied to the full tuition upon acceptance to the program.

Preparation
Participants should be prepared to perform one polished piece in a master class setting. Any concerto movement is acceptable. All music must be memorized.
