Jonathan Ware, age 22, recently received the Bachelor of Music Degree
and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music,
studying under professor Natalya Antonova. Before entering college,
he traveled across the United States with his family, participating
as a pianist and vocalist in his family’s music ministry. Jonathan,
a native of Dallas, Texas, began his piano study at the age of five
with Debbie Boerner, and continued his studies with Lois Emery Nielson
in 1996.
Jonathan has garnered over 25 First Place prizes in
local, state, national, and international competitions. Second Prizewinner
in the Junior Division of the 2002 Missouri Southern International Competition,
he has also won First Prize in the 2002 Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s
Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition and Fourth Prize at the Inaugural
New York Piano Competition, held under the auspices of the Stecher and
Horowitz Foundation in June 2002. Last Spring, Jonathan won the Grand
Prize in the 2005 Kingsville International Young Performer’s competition,
and traveled to Japan as a scholarship student of the Hamamatsu International
Piano Academy.
Jonathan has given solo recitals in cities including Dallas, Buffalo,
Rochester NY, Miami, and Washington D.C., and his orchestra appearances
include solo performances with the Richardson Symphony, the Plano Symphony
(TX), and the Mississippi Symphony, among others. His 2003 debut with
the Dallas Symphony was described as “quite impressive . . .he
played with an ease and spontaneity that belied his years” (Fort
Worth Star-Telegram). His performances have been broadcast on radio
stations across the country including WQXR (New York) and WRR (Dallas),
as well as on public television in the documentary about the New York
Piano Competition titled Speaking with Music. In addition to his love
of solo piano music, Jonathan is an avid chamber musician and collaborative
pianist, having performed as a member of the Cape Cod Experiment and
with many Eastman colleagues. Jonathan has also performed in master
classes for numerous noted artist-teachers, including Michel Beroff,
Marc-André Hamelin, Stephen Hough, Veda Kaplinsky, Alicia de
Larrocha, Julian Martin, Bryce Morrison, Stephen Nielson, John Perry,
and Arie Vardi.
Also active in the church community, Jonathan sings,
accompanies, and uses his unique balloon twisting abilities for fellowships
and charity events.
